Ethos

Story of Pan began with a fascination with Pan himself.

While studying Literature, I became fascinated by Pan and his strange place within mythology. He became the subject of my dissertation — a figure at once playful and unsettling, tender and wild; associated with nature, passion and folklore, but always seeming to exist somewhere at the edges.

I never really lost that fascination and, years later, when looking for a name for the things I was making, I came back to Pan.

​

After graduating, I spent five years working and training in fine jewellery in London’s Hatton Garden. It was there that I learnt traditional techniques at the bench and, perhaps more importantly, developed an appreciation for the small irregularities and traces of the hand that give an object its character.

Story of Pan sits somewhere between these two parts of my life.

I make jewellery by hand in London, mostly from recycled precious metals. The pieces often begin with things I find myself returning to — old stories, strange symbols, plants and animals, folklore and objects that feel as though they might already have had a life before you found them.

​

Alongside small collections, I make one-of-a-kind and bespoke pieces. I particularly love making jewellery with a story behind it, whether that comes from a person, a memory, an inherited stone or simply an idea someone wants to carry with them.
